Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound Course

The advent of portable scanners has changed the role of ultrasound in medical care and has enabled clinicians to perform ultrasonography at the bedside. From simply being an extension of the physical exam, ultrasonography is nowadays a powerful diagnostic tool in the hand of non-radiologist physicians in a variety of clinical settings.  The focus of this course will be on principles and practice of bedside ultrasonography in the paediatric population.

The faculty welcomes you on board!

The Course

We have created this course for clinicians from different medical specialties who are interested in utilizing ultrasonography in paediatric emergency care and in critically ill children.  Course participants will learn how to use point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) for procedures and bedside diagnosis, will acquire hands-on scanning skills, will be able to recognise the strengths and limitations of POCUS and will learn how to effectively integrate basic ultrasonography into sound clinical decision-making.

The Aims of the course

TO understand the basic principles of ultrasonography and to be able to recognize normal anatomy through didactic sessions and hands-on work stations.

TO learn how to optimize imaging; how to identify artifacts and how to minimize and overcome them; to differentiate normal from abnormal findings.

TO gain confidence in imaging the most common pathologies in children by using a systematic protocol-based scanning approach.

TO be able to use various ultrasound machines and demo models under the supervision of our faculty instructors.

Target audience

The course is lead by instructors from different specialty backgrounds and will be of particular interest to Emergency Medicine physicians, Intensivists, Anesthesiologists and Paediatricians.

If you are a novice with no background in noninvasive imaging at all, the course will provide you with a solid foundation in ultrasonography and clear scanning protocols as well as study materials for your review afterwards. For those not new to ultrasonography you will be given the opportunity to refine your technical skills and learn new scanning approaches.

A Certification of Attendance and study material to review will be provided two weeks after the end of the course.

The material will consist of powerpoint slides covering the course sessions and educational links to Sono websites.
